ナインス フロア-*
NINTH FLOOR* (2015 onwards) – There is no such thing as a common present. A clock on the tenth floor ticks faster than it does compared to a clock on the ninth; we have more time for things up there than we do down there. Moreover, a clock in a moving elevator ticks slower than it does compared to a clock in a stopped one; we have less time for things when moving than we do when still. Calling the elevator and waiting for it to arrive should therefore offer the most time. But experiences of time are also coloured by what we are consciously doing. If I am doing nothing while waiting, time will appear to pass slowly. However, if I am consciously doing something, time will appear to pass more quickly.
I have no reason for photographing this view periodically over eight years other than circumstances – set in motion by necessarily pushing a button to call the elevator – make it likely that I will.
